Geothermal energy provides health, environmental benefits April 26, 2013 -- Geothermal energy provides benefits to public health and the environment as one of the least-polluting and most environmentally friendly forms of energy. Geothermal energy also improves national security, and adds to the economy by paying substantial property taxes and providing significant long-term local employment. Geothermal a "truly remarkable" resource April 26, 2013 -- According to the report, geothermal energy emerges as one of the least polluting and environmentally unobtrusive forms of energy, having the lowest lifecycle emissions of any generating technology. The analysis found binary geothermal plants produce virtually no greenhouse gases. GEA estimates the public benefits from clean energy produced in California and Nevada are worth more than $117 million annually. Direct link to the GEA report. Geothermal Energy – The Ultimate Renewable Energy Source April 20, 2013 -- Geothermal is an entirely clean form of energy that is an inexpensive and sustainable option. Tapping into our planet to harvest geothermal energy is by far the most sustainable method of obtaining green energy. The earth’s mantle is an endless supply of energy, with no risk of depletion or harmful emissions. Global geothermal capacity to hit 28.6 gigawatts by 2030 April 15, 2013 -- Geothermal energy is expected to more than double by 2030 as developing countries like Indonesia, Chile and Kenya tap into the clean power available beneath their surfaces, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. "Global capacity will reach 28.6 gigawatts in 62 markets by that time, compared with 11.4 GW in 25 markets in 2012. Geothermal is being seen as a development tool now, ...a driver of economic growth.” HELCO seeking additional geothermal energy February 28, 2013 -- The Hawaii Electric Light Company is seeking to add up to 50 megawatts (MW) of geothermal energy from geothermal resource developers. “Moving forward on geothermal is important to Hawaii Island because we want to increase our use of renewable energy and bring down costs to our customers, while also ensuring reliable service,” said Jay Ignacio, HELCO president. America adds more sources to its energy arsenal February 27, 2013 -- (MSN Money) Greater use of alternatives, including geothermal, pushes the US closer to energy independence. "...Geothermal energy created by the Earth's heat, is apparently getting ready for prime time." A Coming Boom in the US Geothermal Industry February 26, 2013 -- According to the newest Geothermal Energy Association (GEA) Production and Development Report, “up to fourteen plants could become operational in 2013, [with] nine new plants in 2014 and ten more plants in 2015, by over 20 different companies and organizations -- making 2013, 2014, and 2015 three of the most significant boom years for geothermal in decades.” February 21, 2013 -- (Businesswire) The geothermal power industry is rapidly expanding, with 454 projects planned in 64 countries around the world. Promising resources in emerging markets and innovative technology demonstration projects are helping to exploit untapped geographic potential. "...It’s clear that both project developers and investors have recognized the vast energy potential of geothermal resources, signaling a likely expansion in geothermal activity over the next decade.” Sleeping Geothermal Giant Stirs February 20, 2013 -- (Forbes) Rumblings in the geothermal power sector have been highlighted in early 2013 by several important developments. For example, JP Morgan has purchased an interest in eight existing geothermal plants. These announcements signal a likely expansion in geothermal activity over the next decade. Senators put their bipartisan support behind promoting geothermal energy February 18, 2013 -- A bipartisan group of US Senators on the body's Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee have endorsed a measure aimed at boosting development of geothermal energy by tweaking the leasing program for tracts of federal land.
