Avalor Energy applied for this DOE Award of up to $980,000 along with University of Hawai'i and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. Together we will develop a new geophysical inversion and analysis procedure to map the subsurface structure of a geothermal prospect and lower exploration costs by improving the accuracy of geophysical surveys.

HELCO seeking additional geothermal energy

February 28, 2013 -- The Hawaii Electric Light Company is seeking to add up to 50 megawatts (MW) of geothermal energy from geothermal resource developers.  “Moving forward on geothermal is important to Hawaii Island because we want to increase our use of renewable energy and bring down costs to our customers, while also ensuring reliable service,” said Jay Ignacio, HELCO president.
